Click here to read rest of blog. The quilling in this watch is created with 1/16” paper. Talk about little, sewing thread is almost same size. The ole eyes were watering – trying to see what the hands were doing. The hands kept holding too tight and distorting the shapes. Finally after many, many errors the final results are quite nice. The watch face measures 1 ½” across, is battery operated and has a white leather strap. This is indeed “one of a kind” item and would make a special gift or just a beautiful conservation starter wrist watch to wear. There is only one supplier of this wrist watch that I could find, and that is from Australia. Go to www.artbybetty.com for price and shipping rates; also look at the other wrist watches in “Other” category.
Heat wave over? Sure hope so, after 80 days of 100 and above temperatures this year anything in lower 90’s or 80’s seem like a cold front. Ha. And rain – well I know God will send rain — sometime. But seriously though, this hot, dry weather is not new to us here. We have made it through other years, complaining all the time and make promises that we are unable to keep. Keep up the good thoughts – rain will come. It is a promise from our maker.

Love the flat back pearls on these earrings. The Earrings are 1 1/2″ long X 1″ wide and can be yours for only $15.00. All jewelry has been sealed with polyurethane to assure long life of each piece. All quilling on this site is rolled by hand – no machine rolling device has been used.
This pair of earrings will be in an upcoming show the first week-end of May. Come on out and look at all the hand-made items that will be there. Lots of “one of kind” gift items.
Oh wow, come on Rain. We need Rain and we all need it now. Now before our country burns up. Too much acreage has already been burnt and too many homes lost. Have you seen this many fires in your lifetime? Do not think I have. Smoke filled lungs and this is from people inside city limits, not out there fighting the fires. Firemen are getting tired and need relief. The bravery of these men – all I can say is Thank you, thank you, thank you. And pray for their safety, they put themselves in harm way to protect others. Fighting fire is dangerous and hard, hard work. Pray that no more lives be taken during these fires.

Quilling is a meticulous art with no two pieces looking exactly alike. Narrow strips of paper or wire are rolled in a circle then shaped in three dimensional shapes. Shaped pieces that are designated to be used as jewelry are then sealed with clear polyurethane on both sides to make the piece water proof and durable for long wearing. Without this treatment the paper would wear away rapidly and the jewelry would fall apart. After the polyurethane treatment the quilled jewelry will endure many years of wear. The wearing is surprised at the light weight and how wonderful they match their clothing colors. These are truly “one of a kind” and will attract favorable comments while you wear them. Show above is a white flower outline in black. These can be made in any combination of colors or just one color, just like all the other jewelry pieces.

Quilled jewelry like earrings and necklace out of paper?
Actually there is a process that makes it remarkably durable. To make the jewelry 1/8” paper is rolled on a needle tool then shaped to make flowers, hearts and other shapes that would look great as jewelry.
Before the jewelry fixings are applied it is clear that paper without some sort of sealant is not stable. So each piece is saturated on the back side with satin, gloss or matte polyurethane. After the piece is completely dry it is turned over and the polyurethane process is applied to the front of the piece. This makes the jewelry waterproof, long wearing, and ultra light weight.
At last the jewelry fixings can be attached to the quilling to finish the jewelry pieces. Any finished jewelry piece can be special ordered in color or colors of your choice with no extra cost, just a little extra time on my part to make your selection. We are talking no more than a week to 10 days for this kind of special orders.
